Since the Government of Nepal announced the nationwide lockdown from 24 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the lifestyle of everyone drifted towards chaos. From day to day earners to entrepreneurs, Montessori teachers to stock traders, everyone had a tough time. This created the situation where everyone must look for innovative ideas to cope with the ongoing situation. Then, comes the idea of virtual presence work. The outbreak of COVID-19 switched the way of traditional physical presence work office to stay at the home online office.
Currently, virtual presence work has been the common term. Most of us prefer it more than a half-hour hectic drive away to work. Working from our bed or our dining table, our preference for the virtual session has skyrocketed. Even though virtual online class seems to be facile, it takes a toll upon our body. The steady presence of a colorful screen in front of our eyes can be torturous.
American Optometric Association calls it the ‘Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)’, which is also referred to as digital eye strain resulting from prolonged E-devices use. Eye strain, headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes, neck and back pain are the common symptoms of CVS. Other major downsides of working from home are aches and pains that lead to a chronic problem. Muscle and tendon strains, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and Tendonitis are the considerable problems our body faces.
Indoor plants either for our office or for our room are the source of comfort. Looking at greenery for once a while we work can be very soothing for our eyes. Our eye muscles need exercise and continuous looking at the E-device causes strain upon eye muscles, so our eyes need a break once a while. Taking a few minutes break from the glares of the screen allows eyes to focus on a different object than the screen which is good.
As per the study conducted by (Lohr, 2010), physically, indoor plants aid to cleaner, healthier air, thus improving our health and confirmed the stress-reducing benefits. The presence of indoor plants significantly improves the impression of the room, our mental well-being, and reduces the pain perception. Human wellbeing is significantly improved by the plant whether it is indoor or outdoor or of any color.
